Lactobacillus mucosae is naturally found in the gastrointestinal tract of humans and other animals. Past researchers have studied this probiotic bacteria under various environmental conditions, and in competition with other bacteria.

Free and Open Access to Biodiversity Data. Firstly characterized in 2000, Lactobacillus mucosae is a species presenting properties related to probiotic potential, such as the ability to adhere to mucosal surfaces and activity against pathogenic bacteria. Probiotic characteristics of three L. mucosae strains isolated from goat milk produced in Brazilian semiarid area were investigated.

The Benchmarking Universal Single-Copy Ortholog (BUSCO) assessment tool is used, for eukaryotic and bacterial proteomes, to provide quantitative measures of UniProt proteome data completeness in terms of expected gene content. The bile and acid tolerance of the BSH-active Lactobacillus strains are shown in Table 2. Lactobacillus reuteri A9, L. mucosae A13 and the positive control strain L. plantarum ST-III showed tolerance to pH 2.5 and 0.3% oxgall. L. reuteri had the greatest acid-tolerance ability at 79.51%, while L. plantarum ST-III had the lowest at 71.62%.

Parent taxon: Lactobacillus Beijerinck 1901 (Approved Lists 1980) Abstract We isolated Lactobacillus mucosae NK41 and Bifidobacterium longum NK46 from human feces, which induced BDNF expression in corticosterone-stimulated SH-SY5Y cells, and examined their anti-depressive effects in mice.

The potential probiotic benefits of Lactobacillus mucosae have received increasing attention. To investigate the genetic diversity of L. mucosae, comparative genomic analyses of 93 strains isolated from different niches (human and animal gut, human vagina, etc.) and eight strains of published genomes were conducted.

Lactobacillus mucosae is a probiotic bacteria was first identified using a gene probe designed for the mucus-binding gene and it was significantly enhanced the adherent ability of L. reuteri strains to mucin (Roos et al., 2000; Lee et al., 2012).
